Renting a Newark and Sherwood District Council property

Newark and Sherwood District Council properties are allocated by Newark and Sherwood Homes.

Properties are allocated to those eligible for housing and priority is given to those in most housing need.

Apply for housing

In order to apply for a home with Newark and Sherwood Homes, you must register with us first. Fill out the contact form and we will respond with the application form for you to complete. 

Please make sure you have the following information available before you apply:

  • National Insurance Number
  • ID – for example, Passport, Driving Licence, Birth certificate for all members of household
  • Proof and information on any benefit
  • Medical information as appropriate

The application form will ask you for details about yourself and everyone who will live in the property, where you live now, where you would like to live and whether you have any medical conditions or disabilities which might affect the type of property you require.

Once you are on the housing register you will be given an application number which will need in future to view your application and express an interest in properties.This is called a “choice based letting” system and means you can choose where you want to live.
