Families we've already helped

Thanks to a brilliant team effort, the Ahmed family can enjoy a comfortable home that meets the needs of their daughter Zaara who is using a wheelchair. When the family were struggling in their existing home, our teams worked together to find a more suitable home that could be adapted to meet Zaara’s needs.

The family were delighted with the outcome: “We are really pleased with our new home; everyone was very helpful and understanding throughout the whole process. The team ensured we were happy with the changes every step of the way in order to make the process as easy as possible.”

Who we've already helped

Phyllis, Vale View

Phyllis loved her flat at Vale View as soon as she walked in – it was very cosy and had a great view from the living room. She has quickly settled in and really enjoys the lunches provided, particularly as she has made good friends with two other ladies at her table.

Her daughter is also really pleased with the new flat: “Finding somewhere safe and secure for my mum with on-site care has made a big difference to the quality of both our lives. It has given me the peace of mind that my mum is getting the help she needs. Now when I visit, we can spend time together doing things we both enjoy.

I also want to thank the staff at Vale View for all their help with the paperwork associated with moving. I was dreading having to do this.”

Bill, Vale View

Bill was a member of the Army and at the end of his career he lived with his wife and three children in Newark.

Although originally not from the area Bill did not want to disrupt his sons schooling and therefore applied to Newark and Sherwood DC for housing. In 1967 they moved into a three bed maisonette which occupied the third and fourth floor at Vale View. It had views overlooking Newark and everyone enjoyed the view.

In 1973 the family moved to a three bedroom house on Grange road directly opposite Vale View. Bill’s wife Nancy was ‘rather pleased’. She didn’t miss the stairs.

The family lived happily in their new home and the children grew up and moved away.

Bill was widowed in 2007 and although in no rush to move his family encouraged him to down size. He registered again for rehousing and expressed an interest in Vale View which he had witnessed being converted into one bedroom flats for the elderly in 1994. He had also visited residents in the flats through his work with the church. In 2014 he was offered a flat on the fourth floor and moved back in.

He is once more enjoying the view but this time with the benefit of a lift and a secure environment.
