Reach learning disability cheque handover

We have donated £530 to Reach Learning Disability Newark following fundraising for the charity during a series of community events over the summer.

Reach Learning Disability Newark Centre Managers and clients joined members of Newark and Sherwood Homes Corporate Management Team, Directors of the Board and the Tenants’ Forum to receive a cheque at Hawtonville Community Centre.

The centre in Newark, which offers a range of courses and activities for people with learning disabilities, supports more than 125 people.

Chantelle Welsher, Newark Centre Manager for Reach Learning Disability, said: “We're delighted to receive this cheque from Newark and Sherwood Homes. We support people with learning disabilities to reach beyond expectation and make a good life in their local community - a life full of meaning, challenge and opportunity. The money will make a real difference to the individuals using our service and will be used towards resources for our new music class. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Newark and Sherwood Homes and the Tenants’ Forum for making Reach their charity of the year.”

Businesses from across the district donated prizes towards the charity tombola at four Family Fun Days hosted by Newark and Sherwood Homes to celebrate 100 years of council housing. The Fun Days took place in Ollerton, Bilsthorpe and Newark in August.

Rebecca Rance, Chief Executive of Newark and Sherwood Homes, commented: “We were really pleased to fundraise more than £500 for Reach Learning Disability during our 100 years of council housing celebrations. Our culture is shaped through valuing everyone and the charity does just this by working hard to ensure everyone in the local community has the opportunity to learn, have fun and live well.”

Reach was selected by tenants as the Newark and Sherwood Homes Tenants’ Forum charity for 2019. The money raised will be added to donations received over the course of the year from coffee mornings, cake sales and raffles held by tenants before every Tenant Forum Meeting.

Tenants’ Forum Meetings are held quarterly across the district. The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 11 at Maypole Court Community Centre in Wellow. All Newark and Sherwood Homes tenants are welcome to attend.
